Talk to Artists

Terms of Service

Last updated April 2026

Platform Description

TalkToArtists is a marketplace that connects emerging artists (mentees) with experienced artists (mentors) for paid 1:1 mentorship sessions. We provide the platform and infrastructure — we are not a party to the mentorship relationship itself, and we are not an employer of any mentor.

Independent Contractors

Mentors on TalkToArtists are independent contractors, not employees, agents, or partners of TalkToArtists. Mentors are solely responsible for the advice and services they provide. TalkToArtists does not direct or control the content of mentorship sessions.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, TalkToArtists shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from use of the platform, including but not limited to the outcome of any mentorship session. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the fees paid by you in the 3 months prior to the claim.

We do not guarantee any specific results from mentorship sessions, including career advancement, grant success, or sales.

Payment Terms

Mentees pay upfront to book sessions. Mentors receive 80% of each completed session fee. The remaining 20% is retained by TalkToArtists as a platform fee. Payments are processed by Stripe and subject to Stripe's terms of service.

Payouts to mentors are initiated after session completion, net of Stripe processing fees. Payout timing and availability vary by country and are subject to Stripe Connect's policies for your region. Mentors based outside the United States are responsible for ensuring Stripe Connect is available in their country before onboarding.

Tax Responsibilities

TalkToArtists does not withhold taxes on mentor earnings. Mentors are solely responsible for determining, reporting, and paying all applicable taxes on income earned through the platform — including income tax, self-employment tax, VAT, IVA, or any other tax obligations required by their local jurisdiction.

Mentors based outside the United States may have additional reporting obligations related to foreign income. We recommend consulting a local tax professional. TalkToArtists will not issue tax forms (e.g. 1099) to non-US mentors, but may provide earnings summaries upon request.

Refund Policy

Session cancellations made more than 24 hours before the scheduled time are eligible for a full refund. Cancellations within 24 hours may be eligible for a partial refund or rescheduling at the mentor's discretion. If a mentor fails to attend a confirmed session, the mentee will receive a full refund automatically. If a session occurs but the mentee is unsatisfied with the quality of advice, refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis — contact us at jay@talktoartists.com within 48 hours of the session. The platform fee (20%) is non-refundable for completed sessions.

User Obligations

By using TalkToArtists, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate information about yourself and your experience
  • Treat all users with respect
  • Not solicit mentees to circumvent the platform's payment system
  • Not use the platform for any unlawful purpose
  • Keep your account credentials secure

AI-Generated Profiles

During mentor onboarding, we use AI to generate a draft profile from the information you provide. You are responsible for reviewing and approving the final profile before it is published. By submitting your information, you consent to this processing. Profiles must be accurate — you may not publish false credentials or misleading information.

Intellectual Property

You retain ownership of the content you submit (CV, portfolio, profile text). By submitting it, you grant TalkToArtists a non-exclusive licence to display and use that content to operate the platform. We do not claim ownership of your work.

Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, at our sole discretion. You may close your account at any time by contacting us. Termination does not affect any obligations that arose before the effective date.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Delaware.
